Two Ballarat brothers were caught with meth, ecstasy, and cocaine while visiting a prison in Victoria’s east.

Jayden Harvey, 22, and Sakye Harvey, 23, faced Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to drug possession.

The court heard on May 19 this year, the Harveys visited Fulham Correctional Centre and were at the prison’s reception when a dog detected drug residue on Sakye’s clothes.

The pair, both roof tilers, admitted to having drugs in their car, which was parked at the jail.

The Harveys were said to have made a “careless and somewhat silly mistake” bringing the drugs to the prison.

A satchel was discovered inside the vehicle that contained cocaine, meth, and ecstasy tablets.

Sakye took ownership of the cocaine, and Jayden of the meth and ecstasy.

There was no suggestion they attempted to get the substances inside the correctional centre.

Magistrate Mark Stratmann called the offending “a really careless and somewhat silly mistake”.

“I accept that you didn’t think about any of this before it happened,” he said.

Each brother was put on a one-year good behaviour bond and neither was convicted.
