A distraught Ballarat woman has faced court for the first time over a crash in Ballarat’s west that killed a six-year-old child.
Sumira Gambhir, 42, faced Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving in a manner dangerous, careless driving, failing to give way at an intersection, and having an unrestrained child.
The charges stem from a crash on Carngham Rd near Finchs Rd in Lucas on August 10, 2024, when a silver Mazda sedan allegedly collided with a white Toyota Prado just after 7pm.
One passenger in the Mazda, a six-year-old Winter Valley child died at the scene, and the other, a 13-year-old also from Winter Valley, was flown to hospital with Ms Gambhir.
Dressedn in a white patterned shirt and grey jacket, Ms Gambhir trembled and wiped her eyes in court as a man accompanying her rubbed her back and helped her stand when required.
Her bail was extended and she will return to court in July.
