Ararat man fronts court over a swag of sex charges

A man is facing 51 charges, including 17 for rape, allegedly committed across Victoria dating as far back as 2002.

An Ararat man is looking at a lengthy stint in prison if he’s found guilty of a whopping 51 serious charges, including 17 for rape.

Jason Mark Stanczewski is also facing 15 charges of assault, three each of threatening to kill, recklessly causing injury and stalking, two each of indecent assault, theft and intentionally causing injury, and single charges of sexual assault, conduct endangering persons, robbery and trespass.

His case was called for a filing hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday and

Mr Stanczewski will next appear on April 5 for committal mention.

He has yet to enter pleas on all the charges.

The alleged offences occurred between January 2002 and July 2014 at various places around Victoria.

In one case of stalking, Mr Stanczewski allegedly sent a female more than 50 abusive and threatening text messages before confronting and assaulting her in 2009.

He allegedly stole her handbag and mobile phone. In another case at the end of 2008, he allegedly threatened a person to circulate emails and left notes on her vehicle.

The nature of the charges means the case could end up in the County Court.
