A police sergeant accused of dragging another police officer for 10m and later resisting arrest
is “no threat” to the public, a court has heard.
Mornington man Hayden Bodycomb, 47, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday and had his bail extended until March 13.
Mr Bodycomb had been pulled over by police on October 4, where he spoke to officers before allegedly holding onto the arm of a cop as he drove away.
Police allege Mr Bodycomb dragged the officer for 10m before releasing him.
Mr Bodycomb was taken into custody on a later date after he attended Mornington Police Station for an appointment.
It’s alleged he resisted arrest and was later capsicum sprayed and taken to the Frankston Hospital for psychiatric assessment.
The court heard police officers would be among witnesses called to give evidence.
His lawyer said there were elements of the prosecution evidence which Mr Bodycomb opposed. Mr Hargreaves said he was yet to receive some disclosure materials but Magistrate Brett Sonnet advised him to liaise with the prosecution.
During his October court appearance, Mr Bodycomb’s psychologist Anne-Marie Hyde gave evidence that his mental health had significantly deteriorated in custody.
“He needs appropriate mental health support, whether that is with hospital intervention or not,” she said.
Ms Hyde said Mr Bodycomb only presented a risk to himself, not to the public or to other members of the police force.
