The Wodonga RSL sub-branch will not be hosting an Anzac Day march this year, after COVID-19 restrictions forced it to make the difficult decision to cancel.

The sub-branch had originally hoped to hold a march at the Wodonga and District Turf Club grounds where it could control the crowd and adhere to COVID-19 restrictions, but president Jim Begley said the logistics had become too difficult.

“It became too complicated to conform with the Covid restrictions and too many volunteers would need to be involved,” Mr Begley said.

“The council doesn’t have enough volunteers and we don‘t have enough volunteers.

“People want to go along to watch the march or participate in the march, not to be working.”

Mr Begley said the service in Woodland Grove would still go ahead in a Covid-safe way, and those wanting to participate in the march would be able to register and “tag onto the Albury march”.

“We are going to fence off an area for the dawn service where we’ll have a guest speaker and people laying wreaths,” he said.

“We’ll probably have about 50 people catered for there, and if people want to watch (from outside the fenced off area) they can.”

Wodonga’s Dawn Service will begin at about 5.45am, with the regular service held at 11am.
