The Albino rabbit who won hearts worldwide with his rare genetic condition will have an ongoing legacy after the launch of a memorial plush toy for his fans.

Wodonga’s Mr Bigglesworth took his last breath earlier this month after fighting for his life in a specialist clinic in Melbourne, breaking his more than 140k Instagram followers’ hearts.

But nobody was more upset than his mum and owner Cassandra Hall.

“People have reached out and told us how much he’s changed their lives and what he’s done for them. [People] want to do paintings [of Mr Bigglesworth] for free; they want to make urns and statues for free; it’s just massive,” she said.

Ms Hall is now turning her attention to creating Mr Bigglesworth merchandise to commemorate the rex rabbit’s life.

“We’re doing a memorial toy, but we’re going to donate all of the money to all of the rescues that have supported us and looked after us; all the profits will go to animal rescues under Mr Bigglesworth’s name as his legacy,” she said.

“I’m doing this so his memory lives on and he can still help other animals in need.”

This won’t be the first time profits from the albino rabbit’s merchandise was donated to different charities.

“We really focused on the Australian bushfires. We got a little drawing done of Mr Bigglesworth putting out fires and helping.

“We then promoted that on his pages, and we sold his cups around the world. We went out and visited the rescues around Australia and gave them the money personally,” she said.

Ms Hall said seeing the outpouring of love for Mr Bigglesworth‘s merchandise encouraged her to get involved with more and more charities in her beloved pet’s name.

“Any money that we were making from his shop or any sales, we would pick a rescue every couple of weeks and donate that money to the rescue,” she said.

She fondly recalls how Mr Bigglesworth was very involved in selecting the charities.

“Mr Bigglesworth would look at the screen and pick a rescue, and then we would send that money. We did so much of that stuff without any reward for us because we wanted to help people and make people feel good,” she said.

Ms Hall remembers Mr Bigglesworth as a really “cheeky” but “smart” rabbit.

“He would come running when you called his name, and if you ever said ‘apple’, he would just go crazy and do this little dance because he loved apples so much,” she said.

Mr Bigglesworth also didn’t like to be told “no” and would stomp his feet.

“It was just the funniest thing; he would just get so angry with me when I said no to him,” Ms Hall said.

Mr Bigglesworth died at the age of five at a vet’s practice in Wodonga.

“He passed away in my daughter’s arms, and we got to be with him, cuddle and kiss him. We were just glad we got to be there,” Ms Hall said.
