Police have made a dent in the drug supply in the Albury region after charging an alleged major player with more than 55 drug and theft charges.
It comes after police arrested a 34-year-old man at a house on Mate Street, North Albury, last month as they executed a search warrant execution.
During the search warrant, which came after months of investigation, police allegedly seized methamphetamine, butanol and several allegedly stolen items including a Lego set and diamond engagement ring.
“The items seized to undergo further forensic examination,” a police spokesperson said.
The man was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with 56 offences.
These included one count of knowingly directing activities of a criminal group, three counts of supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and 51 counts of supplying prohibited drugs and one count of assaulting a police officer in execution of duty.
The arrest was part of police investigations into the supply of drugs in the community.
“In December 2022, detectives from Murray River Police District established Strike Force Gallinule to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in the Albury Wodonga area,” the police spokesman said.
The 34-year-old was refused bail and appeared before Albury Local Court on 24 February, where he was refused bail to reappear at a later date.
Inquiries under Strike Force Gallinule continue.
