If North Albury are to move up the ladder, they’ll need quality recruits — and Tim Broomhead fits the bill.

The former Collingwood player has linked up with the Ovens and Murray league outfit on a two-year deal.

His move to the NSW-Victoria border comes just days after he informed Seaford he would not be returning to the club.

In his first and only season with the club, the 27-year-old took home the club’s best and fairest kicking 27 goals in 13 games as the Tigers looked prime to challenge for a premiership.

Broomhead’s new coach Luke Norman revealed the move had been 12 months in the making.

“We first spoke to Tim about a year ago when he came out of the AFL system,” he said.

“He will fit into our culture really well and I’m sure a few of our young guys will lean on him for experience. He’s already asked for a training program which shows just how determined he is.

“We just want Tim to enjoy his footy and we’re looking forward to seeing him in our club colours.”

By the time season 2022 gets underway, Broomhead will be 28 and Norman expects his new recruit to be hitting the peak of his powers.

“He’s a classy footballer who can play in several positions,” he said.

“We will look at using him primarily in the midfield but there is no reason we might not see him across half back or half forward.”

Club president Tony Burns expressed his own excitement at the arrival of Broomhead.

“We are excited to welcome Tim and his family to our proud club,” he said.

“Tim’s experience will be a big boost to our very young list and his signing will inject a shot of enthusiasm to our loyal sponsors, members and supporters.”

The Hoppers failed to win a game in 2021 but despite results on the field Norman said his playing group had taken big steps forward.

“For us, our goal was to improve every week and we managed to do that,” he said.

“Our guys have now had a bit of a break but they’re keen to get back into it again.

“We want to improve five to 10 per cent in all areas next season and if we’re able to get pre-season right it will go a long way to doing that.”
