Residents of a Lavington neighbourhood were alerted to a car fire in their street when a loud explosion disrupted their evening.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said fire crews were called to a rubbish fire on the corner of Kentucky Ave and Balston St at around 6.40pm.
When crews arrived on scene they realised it was a car fire, with the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
A police spokeswoman said it was believed the car was a Range Rover, but no owners had been identified as the plates didn’t match the vehicle.
Balston St resident Ethel Barraca said it has been a quiet night before the explosion went off.
“We were inside having dinner when we heard an explosion,” Mr Barraca said.
“We came outside and it was already on fire …
“The car alarm was continuously going.”
Police are still at the scene.
