Holbrook: Child in car of high-speed police chase

A man has been charged after the vehicle he was driving was allegedly involved in a high-speed car chase on the Hume Hwy as a child sat in the car.

A Victorian man has been charged after he was allegedly involved in a high-speed police chase as a four-year-old boy sat in the car.

Murray River Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers detected a Toyota sedan on the Hume Hwy, north of Holbrook, travelling 129km/h in a 110km/h zone just before 9am on Tuesday, May 18.But when police stopped the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped off.

Police said the vehicle was driven south against northbound traffic at high speed, before the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

The car then turned off the highway and into a rural property in the Gerogery area.

Police found the Toyota unattended behind a shed.

A co-ordinated search was conducted by Murray River police between the Gerogery and Table Top areas, with help from Victoria Police Airwing.

The occupants of the vehicle, a 37-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and a four-year-old child were located on Knox Rd, Table Top.

The man was arrested and taken to Albury police station where he was charged.

He was refused bail, to appear at Albury Local Court on July 14.

The woman was arrested and taken to Albury Base Hospital for assessment.

Alternate care arrangements have been made for the child.
