Dean Wilson: Albury’s Brew House manager assaulted, women frightened outside pub

An Albury man has been warned after causing an eventful night for Brew House staff and patrons.

A 51-year-old Albury man caused quite a disturbance at a Dean St pub, frightening two women, and assaulting the manager.

Dean Wilson appeared before Albury Local Court on April 7, and pleaded guilty to common assault.

Court documents reveal Wilson was walking along Dean St when he sat down at a table occupied by two women outside the Brew House at about 7.35pm on February 6.

According to documents, Wilson was speaking gibberish to the women, who were frightened and concerned by his behaviour.

The manager of the venue then came out and asked Wilson to leave.
In court documents Wilson then stood up, still speaking gibberish, and punched the manager in the back after the man turned to walk inside.

But Wilson’s defence solicitor, who presented CCTV footage to the court, stated the video showed Wilson did not punch the victim and instead brushed him with his hand while gesturing.

Wilson, who appeared from custody via video link, kept interrupting.

“I didn’t punch him your honour,” Wilson shouted.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kayla Borchert said the footage changed the objective seriousness of the incident, but it was still an assault as the victim had his back turned when he was brushed to the back of the head.

Sgt Borchert said the offence was aggravated by the fact that Wilson was on parole for a similar offence.

Magistrate Richard Funston sentenced Wilson to one month in prison, backdated to February 2.

“So you will still get out today,” Mr Funston said.

“When you get out today you have to be very careful what you do with your hands.

“Don’t throw your hands around when you’re walking down the street.”
