If you’ve ever wanted to own your own hotel now’s your chance, with four accommodation sites for sale in Albury-Wodonga – and experts say now is the time to invest in regional tourism.
Albury’s Mantra hotel, Quest Albury, and All Seasons Tourist Park are all for sale, as well as the Twin City Motor Inn in Wodonga.
Colliers International Sydney’s Gus Moors is the broker for the Mantra Hotel.
He said as coronavirus restrictions started to ease, now was the time to invest in tourism in the Albury-Wodonga region.
“What we’re seeing is there’s a flood of demand in the regional market at the moment, with people not being able to travel overseas,” Mr Moors said.
“This will continue for the medium to long term.
“While Australians love to go overseas, there will be an element of people being concerned about that going forward, and they’ll be looking to explore their own backyards.”
Mr Moors said the Mantra went on the market just before the pandemic hit.
“(It) threw us out a bit which is why it’s been a slower process,” he said.
“But now the border has opened again we’re seeing more interest.
“This is the newest, and best quality, property in the Albury-Wodonga market having only opened in mid-2018.
“The owner is willing to support the performance of the hotel’s trading in terms of a vendor guarantee.”
Resort Brokers Australia’s Damien Loorham said Albury-Wodonga’s unique position between Melbourne and Sydney gave it a strong advantage when it came to accommodation.
“Albury-Wodonga has always been a strong, very sought-after area,” Mr Loorham said.
“No doubt everyone has been affected this year, but there is a bit more optimism around an area that combines corporate travel as well as that tourism factor.
“There are very few towns that combine those two things, which can lead to seven-days-a-week bookings.”
