The Commonwealth government announcement that it will spend $11.3bn to address the nation’s housing crisis is good in principle, but if federal and Victorian leaders can’t tell us how it will be implemented it remains a cruel hoax.
This year’s budget has to be seen as a deliberate failure by the Allan government to address the cost to Victorians of rising debt. It’s a rats and mice budget, where the rat just got much bigger.
Daniel Andrews has set Victoria on a bleak course from which there will be no turning back for decades. But on budget day we are entitled to a sign – some hope – that the Allan government is serious about governing responsibly.
Between higher taxes and our failing services, there’s never been less motivation to work hard in Victoria — and we can thank the gross mismanagement of the Andrews/Allan governments.
After every event involving loss of life or damage to property, we hear our leaders say this must stop. But nothing is done to address root causes.
