Time On: What really happened when Maynard visited Brayshaw’s home

Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn has revealed what really happened when Brayden Maynard visited Angus Brayshaw’s home after the concussion controversy.

Time On is your daily wrap-up of all the footy gossip and banter.

Max Gawn has revealed what really happened when Brayden Maynard visited Angus Brayshaw’s home after last week’s incident.

The Melbourne ruckman said reports the gesture of flowers and wine were rejected, aren’t true.

“We weren’t on the couch watching Thank God You’re Here... but it was certainly not the reports that have come out. I put the flowers in a vase,” Gawn said on Triple M’s Marty Sheargold radio show on Thursday.

“I got a text later that night from Danielle (Frawley) that I picked the wrong vase. I picked a pink vase. I thought it suited the flowers! I put the wine in a cellar as well.”

Gawn was at Brayshaw’s home the day after Maynard’s collision with the midfielder, which left him unconscious for two minutes.

Several Melbourne players were also in attendance in support of the injured Dees veteran, with Maynard later showing up as well.

Caroline Wilson said this week Maynard’s visit didn’t go so well, with one Demons player allegedly “leaving the room” when Maynard arrived with flowers and wine for Brayshaw.

“Brayden Maynard went round to the house of Angus Brayshaw with a bottle of wine for the player and a bunch of flowers for his girlfriend,” Wilson said on Footy Classified on Monday night.

“The reason he was let into the house I think was because Max Gawn and Christian Petracca happened to be there and Max Gawn let him in.

“It was pretty tense I understand, I’m not sure the flowers actually made it to a vase.

“I think Brayden Maynard also contacted Brayshaw’s mother Deb, I don’t think that conversation went very well at all.”

But Gawn said this wasn’t the case and added: “We were really worried. The real emotional part to this is his family.

“I’ve tried to shut myself away from it.

“I think I’m way too bias to have an opinion because I can’t really see the other point of view, and the other point of view won.”

“He’s not going to be there Friday night but I have been taunting him all week,’’ Lee said.

“It’s going to be epic. I’ll be high up in the Shane Warne Stand with my dad and my brother and hopefully it turns into a Carlton-Collingwood grand final.”

Lee and Blake haven’t made a bet — it’s just for personal thrills.

“Back in the day there’d probably be a nudie run for the loser but we don’t have the courage for it anymore and our partners probably have a say in that now,’’ Lee said.

A guest on Seven’s Talking Finals on Wednesday night, he had a laugh with panellist and his former captain Trent Cotchin.

“The 2018 prelim, we sat there and spoke about Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody and how it was a generational song and brought all these different musical trends together,’’ he recalled.

“We went through the video and took the team upstairs and we had a Queen tribute band. All a complete waste. I got great joy out of the band but (Collingwood’s) Mason Cox tore us apart that night so end of story.”
