Brendan Fevola has officially hung up his boots after claiming another flag on Sunday.
“It was my fourth senior grand final and I am done,’’ he said.
“I went out on a premiership. After 37 years of the game I’ve loved so much and has given me so much more.
“It’s time to say goodbye. What a way to finish with a FLAG. I’m cooked.”
Fevola was playing with the Diamond Valley Superules Football Club in the
Victorian Superules League which is for players aged over 35.
A good effort from Fevola who was recently battling a bulging disc in his back.
Fevola lined up in Frankston alongside former players Dane Swan, Aaron Edwards, Anthony Franchina and Daniel Harris.
He last won a flag in 2012 with Yarrawonga.
Club president and poker identity, Tony Hachem, also ran out with the Supers on Sunday as the club won its 14th premiership.
“I didn’t go back to the clubrooms, I’ve got a bit of FOMO, the boys are still partying,’’ Fevola said on FOX FM Monday morning.
Cornes claims another scalp
Kane Cornes was taking credit for the downfall of Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.
Last week on the Sunday Footy Show he arrived late after a flight cancellation and he took aim at the airline.
“Shocking. I saw the CEO got 10 million in shares during this week and he cannot even get the first flight out at six o’clock. Can’t even get that out on time. Disgraceful,’’ Cornes said.
Cornes rocked up in a Nike T-shirt, with no make up on, straight from the airport.
On Sunday he said Joyce, who departed during the week, was another scalp.
“I’ve taken some big scalps in my day, some huge names Ben Cousins, Sam Mitchell, Simon Black, then there’s the lesser ones like Nick Dal Santo and Daisy Thomas,’’ he said.
“I took my biggest one last Sunday wearing a Nike T-shirt. The very next day this is what happened (he resigned). I did what many have tried before me and couldn’t successfully do. I single-handedly took down the CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce.”
Robbie lets Blues entertain him
Carlton coach Michael Voss was thrilled after the game when he saw there was support from superstar singer Robbie Williams.
Williams, who was swayed to barrack for the Blues after meeting Voss before last year’s grand final, posted a video on Instagram watching the final moments of the match.
“Well Robbie I know you love big Ange (Postecoglou) but you’ve got to love us more mate, great to see you watching our game,’’ Voss said.
“Unbelievable. Go Baggers, catch up in a couple of months.”
Williams also didn’t hold back and took a dig at the Swans.
“Every time, every time, every time I’ve watched the Swans, the Swans have lost to everyone,’’ he sang.
The Swans were smashed by Geelong in last year’s grand final. Ouch.
Judd finds his audience
Chris Judd was mobbed outside the MCG on his 40th birthday Friday night.
As he tried to leave and push through 90,000 Blues fans the fans erupted at the sight of the club legend. Judd’s wife Bec posted videos on Instagram showing the crowd singing happy birthday.
“The king leaving the G last night like he’d kicked the winning goal,’’ Bec wrote.
“It was electric. So happy for the Carlton faithful. Our time is coming.”
Lone Star support
Saints fan didn’t have much to cheer about at the weekend but there was one sight that would have got many excited.
Nick Riewoldt posted his support for the club all the way from Texas with his three sons wearing St Kilda jumpers.
The club lost to GWS on Saturday but with the father-son rule there may be more Riewoldts at the club in future.
