Former Channel 7 and Triple M footy expert Wayne Carey has given Sunday Footy Show regular Kane Cornes a withering spray, saying the ex-Port Adelaide star was in danger of becoming a “laughing stock” as a commentator.

Carey’s savage assessment came after Cornes let rip at the West Coast Eagles on the Sunday Footy Show on Channel 9 for making the late decision to pull Brady Hough out of the team on the cusp of Saturday’s match against Fremantle and criticised the standards of the club over the past three years saying, “the whole club is a joke”.

Speaking on his The Truth Hurts podcast, Carey said of the Nine identity: “I think he throws a thousand darts and gets about two right.”

He said Cornes did not hold his former club to as high standards as he judged others by.

“I think he is becoming, for a guy that I like some of his opinions, he is becoming the laughing stock … a guy that just sits there and looks after his own club and pots everyone else’s club,” Carey told his podcast audience.

“It is really becoming embarrassing, I think, for Kane now.

“Does he think they (the Eagles) want to be playing football like that?

“Every club has had a moment in time where they have been really poor on field and not got it quite right off field as well, but it doesn’t mean they are a disgraceful club.”

Carey and Cornes, both strongly opinionated and clever media performers, have had a few disagreements over the years.

Grandmother’s legacy remains at The Block

The Block is holding a precious memory for the family of the Melbourne man who built one of the Hampton East homes that have been transformed during the 2023 season.

The ashes of a beloved member of the family of John Imlach, who bought block 20 in Charming St in the early 1950s, were scattered many years ago under the large, aged tree in the front yard of the home described as House 4 on the show.

House 4 is being renovated by Steph and Gian.

“Two blocks of land were bought by my grandfather, John Imlach, in Charming St in 1951/1952 and my father, who was a draughtsman, who was John’s son, designed them,” Lyn Lewis said.

“My grandmother, she was a great gardener, had a lovely multi-tiered front garden at No 20 We had many wonderful Christmases at that house.

“On Mother’s Day this year we took my elderly parents, who are 95, around there to show them grandma’s house.

“It was really busy because there was construction going on everywhere, but we went for sentimental reasons and dad could not believe what was going on.

“Half of my grandmother’s ashes are under that magnolia tree. I am so relieved they have retained that tree.”

Shane Jacobson has opened up about the behind the scenes manoeuvres that preserved at least some of the dignity of the performers, including Brian Taylor, in The Real Full Monty celebrity stripper-thon.

Taylor took part in the male striptease on Channel 7 in 2018 after being talked into it by Jacobson, who also disrobed for the cameras.

“Behind the scenes we affectionately called it C---s Out For Cancer, because it really is what it was,” Jacobson said on Taylor’s Life of Brian podcast.

“As we know the full monty is getting your gear off and it was to raise awareness for cancer.”

Taylor said Jacobson assured him he would not be exposed to the audience as “there will be an explosion in front of your d---s and no one will see.”

But the pair forgot about the camera at the back of the stage.

“I got us up the back,” Jacobson said.

“But what we had not factored in is that on TV they can’t show your d---s either, so the last shot they went with was a camera up the back of the stage looking behind us to the audience.

“So there is one Shane Jacobson and one Brian Taylor’s massive a---s front and rear.
