Rod Stewart’s final Australian hurrah with special guest

British rock idol Sir Rod Stewart says his last big tour Down Under, which will feature a special guest, will be “wonderful”.

British rock idol Sir Rod Stewart will embark on a massive Australian tour next year with support from special guest Cyndi Lauper.

Stewart will perform a string of headline shows in what will be his last big dance Down Under.

The tour kicks off in Perth on March 11, with additional stops in Melbourne at Rod Laver Arena on March 14, Geelong, Adelaide, Mount Cotton, Sydney, Hunter Valley and Centennial Vineyards in Bowral.

Jon Stevens will open for all shows on the tour which includes A Day on the Green at Mt Duneed, Geelong, March 18; Sirromet Wines, Mount Cotton, March 25 and Centennial Vineyards, Bowral, April 2.

“The shows are going to be absolutely fantastic — I have more energy now than the last time I was there and you will witness this,’’ Stewart, 77, said.

Cyndi Lauper will be joining Rod.

“There are 12 people in the band — six of whom are women and are drop-dead gorgeous, every single one of them. They weren’t chosen because they look good, they were chosen because they are fabulous musicians, dancers and singers.

“It is the last time (I will bring a big rock show to Australia) and I will savour it.

“We have all waited long enough. It’s going to be wonderful.

“The outdoor festivals are wonderful. The last time I was there we did some of the vineyards and the next day I drove by to pick up some stuff and I have never seen so many empty bottles of wine in my life. It looked like Sauchiehall St in Glasgow on a Friday morning. People just enjoyed themselves, it was brilliant.”

General public tickets go on sale November 17 at 1pm.
