Russian revolution at old Cherry Bar

Bar tsars Nick and Daniel Russian are ready to throw open the doors to their new venture at the former Cherry Bar on AC/DC Lane.

The champagne has finally popped for Bar Bambi.

Almost every obstacle imaginable confronted the Russian brothers, bar tsars trying to get the former Cherry Bar location on AC/DC Lane up and running.

First they had to prise the keys from ex-owner James Young following a long settlement. Then came red tape and nine months of bureaucracy to get the liquor licence over the line.

Nick Russian and his brother and business partner Daniel Russian are ready to party.

They were ready to start building, only to realise that the building where Lady Gaga bumped and ground into the night was falling down.

After getting the foundations reset, the fitout was done and then, yes, you’ve guessed, Covid.

Nick Russian turned to politics with a tilt at lord mayor last year.

His fashion influencer wife Rozalia would have made a great lady mayoress.

Now, six lockdowns and 18 months later, Nick and his brother and business partner Daniel are ready to throw an almighty party.

“We are finally here,” Nick Russian told Page 13.

The Russians looked back on the heady days when they owned Eve nightclub, where everyone from Britney Spears to Kelly Osbourne partied.

Bar Bambi is aimed at the more sophisticated set.

“We are kind of a hybrid venue where you can come for a bite, come for a drink, or come for a singalong to the piano man or late, late into the night you may want to dance on the tables, who knows, let’s see where the night takes us,” Nick joked.

Bar Bambi opens on November 11.
