Russell Crowe refused entry into Mr Miyagi for not meeting dress-code

A slobby Russell Crowe isn’t the only star to be refused entry into Mr Miyagi— with this local mover and shaker also barred.

“No soup for you” was the famous line hollered to Jerry Seinfeld as he was banned from a New York diner.

A Chapel St restaurant has done one better, with a “no slobby you allowed” directed to Oscar winner Russell Crowe and his entourage.

Mr Miyagi owner Kristian Klein told Page 13 he stood by his staff’s decision to ban the Gladiator star, his girlfriend Britney Theriot and their guests from his high end Japanese restaurant last week, saying their “slobby gym gear” attire just didn’t hold up to his restaurant’s high standards.

“We treat everyone the same,” Klein said. “It doesn’t matter who you are or if you are Russell Crowe. We’ve got a dress code that we that we push across every level. So whoever it is, it stays the same. We’re consistent with it and I don’t feel like it’s unreasonable.”

Turns out scruffy Crowe is not alone, with Herald Sun columnist and TV commentator Steve Price and his partner, uber radio producer Sacha French, also knocked back from the eatery for wearing athleisure wear.

Klein said he expected his guests to treat the restaurant, the same venue where Dustin Martin’s infamous “chopsticksgate” took place, with the same respect his staff treats their guests.

Sacha French and Steve Price were also refused entry.

“We put so much effort in what we do. And we expect everyone to sort of respect us like we respect the guests.”

He said anyone wearing what he called “beach attire”, ie singlet and thongs or Athleisure wear ie leggings, yoga pants or sweats, would get a firm no from dining at his establishment.

“We’re not trying to teach people how to dress,” Klein said.

“But I know personally if I’m in my thongs and my boardies, I’m not going to try and go to a nice restaurant, because I wouldn’t be dressed appropriately.”

He is not alone with another fine dining Melbourne restaurateur who wished not to be named saying he had to recently scold a regular high-flying diner, who likes to flash pocketfuls of cash, from rocking up to his five star restaurant in, shock horror, bare feet.

While Mr Miyagi was busy turning away their scruffy customers, and good on them we say, down the road a Bachelor star was also getting a grilling.

Morris Jones bar staff knocked back Lothario Felix von Hofe for trying to enter the nightspot wearing shorts.

But we hear a quick call to owner Hayden Burbank (yes the Grand Final border breacher) quickly rectified the situation with some stern words said to door staff.

Different strokes.
