AFL premiership player Rick Olarenshaw fled to Melbourne to party with his former Essendon teammates as sex raids were being held at his Bali owned Flame Spa.
Olarenshaw is understood to have attended a Baby Bombers reunion party on Thursday night before the AFL Grand Final at around the same time his estranged wife was being questioned and later arrested by police into allegations Flame Spa was running as an illegal brothel.
Olarenshaw has told friends he jumped on the first plane out of Bali to Singapore and later to Melbourne after his wife, who is now languishing in Bali police detention, allegedly caught him cheating. After Page 13 broke the Bali sex raids news the week after the AFL GF, Olarenshaw has since gone to ground.
It comes as a Melbourne man accused of running a brothel in Bali has been taken to hospital after complaining of pancreatic cancer.
Michael Le Grand, 50, covered his head with a towel as he was escorted from a police vehicle into police owned Bhayangkara Hospital in Bali on Friday.
The father-of-three was led into the hospital with his hands bound with cable ties.
Le Grand has been in custody at Bali’s police station since he was arrested over allegations that the Pink Palace Spa, which he owns, was operating as a brothel.
The spa, which opened in May, had raised eyebrows in the conservative Muslim country, with his in-your-face advertising, including mobile billboards.
Pink Spa lawyer, Joniono Rahardjo, said that Le Grand was taken to hospital because he was suffering gastric problems and had been vomiting, but was later returned to police detention.
“Since last several days, he suffers gastric problems and is often vomiting,” Joniono said.
“A medical team have visit him at the detention and know his condition, that’s why they suggested for him to be taken to hospital for further medical checks.”
Joniono said that lawyers have asked for a detention suspension for Le Grand regarding his health condition, but police have not responded.
“I feel disappointed about it. Michael has suffered from sickness and they have kids to be cared for.
When a suspect get detention suspension, they could be freed from police detention and only make weekly reports to police station while their case is processed.”
Le Grand’s wife, Bali bomb survivor Lynley is also being held in police detention after the raids.
