Page 13: There’s just something about our true blue Princess Mary

There was no pomp or posing for posterity for our Princess Mary when she took some time out to slum it in the ’burbs of Melbourne this week with her Aussie besties.

A princess slumming it in the ’burbs is the stuff of, well, Disney movies.

But that’s exactly what Mary, Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess of Denmark, managed to pull off this week.

Forget Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday, Princess Mary had an Elwood Holiday.

There was no pomp or posing for posterity in the sunny but modest two-bedroom flat in Elwood where Mary was crashing while taking some time out in Bayside visiting her Aussie besties.

Is Princess Mary the most down-to-earth royal on the planet?
Is Princess Mary the most down-to-earth royal on the planet?

Fun fact: Mary used to flat in Elwood in her 20s while an advertising executive, so she was on her ol’ stamping ground.

Our Aussie princess was downing a few vinos on the couch and sharing laughs with old mates while escaping prying paps.

She’s true blue!

Not to mention that she flies commercial. Is this the most down-to-earth royal on the planet? Again, serious props to our princess.

Mary is believed to have slipped into Australia to visit family in Tasmania before dropping in to Melbourne to catch up with the gals.

A 50th birthday milestone should be celebrated with friends, especially old ones.

But it’s tricky when you’re married to the next in line to the Danish throne.

So a careful plan was hatched for Mary to slip in and out of her home country without anybody noticing.

Everything was going to plan until the Brah-ton brigade of ladies who lunch fell into swoons at the royal sighting and the Church St whispers began.

Luckily for Mary she was leaving the following day. Her bestie, Amber Petty, proved adept at avoiding the paps, who finally found the princess riding shotgun in Petty’s red hatchback Hyundai on Thursday.

Page 13 went calling on Friday but like any true bestie, Petty wasn’t giving anything away as to the royal hideout.

“Yes, it’s true we had a week under the radar with my beautiful friend,” Petty did let slip.

“And, yes, it certainly was a gift for myself and her other friends to get time with her without anyone realising she was here. That’s rare and very special.”

Petty did not reveal if she had given her royal bestie one of her personal tarot readings, and at any rate, what does one give a princess who has the world at her feet?

“Just special things that don’t cost thousands of dollars. It was just magical.”

All hail!
