The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the McGuire family.

Eddie McGuire’s youngest son Xander is following in his father’s footsteps on the television news beat.

In a slick bit of father-son recruiting, Channel 9 has secured the second coming of Eddie on an internship.

Part of that is requiring him to do exactly what the old man did, harassing footballers as they come out of medical clinics (think Tony Lockett crutch throw).

Xander’s move into TV journalism has his old man beaming given Eddie started his long journey to top in the Channel 10 newsroom back in 1982.

He was an enthusiastic year 12 student from Broadmeadows back then, but already Xander, 19, has a few more credits in the bank.

In 2015 Xander was cast in Neighbours to play Charlie Hoyland, the eldest son of controversial character Steph Scully who was returning to Ramsay Street after a prolonged absence.

He reportedly was bitten by the acting bug after performing in a school musical.

Now it seems a different bug has struck and AFL players will need to be on their toes.
