The Royal Melbourne Golf Club members are well known for turning their noses up at, well, just about everything.
The conservative club recently had to endure the indignity of a superstar in their ranks when Harry Styles rocked up for a round. A picture surfaced online of the Watermelon Sugar superstar wearing golf attire that wasn’t his contracted Gucci fashion sponsor.
Styles went into damage control the next day, getting papped at a café wearing the luxury designer label from head to toe.
But we digress.
Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting were famously knocked back and members bristled when Premier Dan Andrew rocked up recently as a guest.
One would think a Victorian Premier on the fairways would be welcomed, but not by these members.
“The audacity” and “They have sure got some nerve” were some of the comments at the 19th hole.
And Royal Melbourne is not alone, Page 13 hears many of the members on Melbourne’s famed sandbelt courses kick up more the a divot at the sight of “Dictator Dan”
Long memories from when the golf-loving premier banned the sport during his draconian Covid lockdowns.
