Melbourne croissant queen Kate Reid’s race for the top job at the AustraIian Grand Prix Corporation has stalled.
Reid, who studied aerospace engineering and worked as an aerodynamics engineer for the Williams F1 team in London before launching her Lune croissant empire in 2012, was vying for the AusGP CEO role after Andrew Westacott’s departure.
But Ms Reid told Page 13: “I was indeed interviewed for the role, but just last week found out that the board have decided not to progress my application.
“I’m very disappointed, as I felt I had a real set of fresh eyes to bring to the role, and I was so excited at the prospect of working with the board and (Victoria’s Major Events) Minister (Steve) Dimopoulos to deliver Australia’s greatest sporting event.
Ms Reid graciously added: “I’m certain that the pool of candidates applying was stellar, and I hope they find someone exceptional”.
With invites for Westacott’s May 25 farewell bash already landing in VIP in-trays, top contenders for the AusGP CEO are firming, including Travis Auld, who missed out being appointed AFL boss, and former F1 race director Michael Masi.
