Nick Kyrgios’ partner Costeen Hatzi will be urging him to give it another crack despite the Aussie ace confirming this could have been his last Australian Open.
Hatzi said she was proud how Kyrgios pushed through pain after bowing out in the first round.
“He was injured the entire match and he did something not a lot of players could do,’’ Hatzi said.
“The fact that he was back on the court at the AO after so many injuries, surgeries, I’m really proud of him.
“I can’t say for sure (it was his last), it just really depends on how he’s feeling, how his body holds up because he can’t keep putting his body through so much pain.
“But don’t worry I will be encouraging him to keep going.”
Hatzi joked that “he’s not stopping til he’s 40 years old like (Novak) Djokovic” but his body will ultimately decide.
She stepped out in style for a day at the tennis with Ralph Lauren and will continue to work at the Australian Open.
Kyrgios went for an abdominal scan on Tuesday and will play doubles with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Hatzi said the Australian crowds were “unbelievable” and gave Kyrgios the energy to continue.
“The Aussie crowd, they just love him,’’ she said.
“The whole stadium was roaring and I got goosebumps hearing the energy that came from the crowd.
“I feel bad for him, the Aussie crowd really wanted him to win.
“I think he will continue to play this year if he’s healthy and has no injuries. I think he’s planning on Indian Wells and Miami and we’ll definitely be in Paris as well, he’s commentating that.”
