Costeen Hatzi, the girlfriend of Aussie ace Nick Kyrgios, says he’s a changed man with a renewed passion for the sport.
Adding that Kyrgios is devastated he is missing a second straight Australian Open through injury, Hatzi said she couldn’t be prouder of how he’s dealt with setbacks over the past year.
“Honestly I feel like he’s been really mature and handled it well,” she said.
“He’s just in a positive mindest, not how he used to be. He didn’t fall into depression or anything, he’s been good, taking it day by day and as best as he can.
“I feel like now because he’s been injured he’s not going to take it for granted anymore. He’s got this fire and passion to come back and win a slam.”
Hatzi, 23, is in Melbourne supporting Kyrgios who will commentate through the tournament and also develop his podcast.
“He’s working hard every day in the gym, doing rehab,” she said.
“The body just has to heal.
“I’m still going to go and watch some tennis, but it just sucks he’s not going to be playing.
“It’s so fun to watch him in Australia, nothing beats it.
“I feel like after (making the final at) Wimbledon less people hated him.”
Hatzi has expanded her dress hire business called Style Studio and is also attending on Monday as an ambassador for Bondi Sands, the official sunscreen partner of the AO.
She will be at a VIP event at QT Rooftop with a number of other glamour girls of tennis.
Bondi Sands will offer 500,000 of the new Sport SPF 50 Wet Skin Sunscreen formula throughout the two-week tournament.
“We still travelled a lot last year and it’s exciting to be here doing shoots and working with an iconic brand,” Hatzi said.
