The carnival is well and truly over at the Victoria Racing Club with new boss Kylie Rogers cracking the whip.
A major restructure by the former AFL executive has seen close to 40 jobs cut as the VRC tackles its dire financial situation after having lost $70 million over the last four years.
Rogers enjoyed her first Flemington carnival in November but behind-the-scenes she was clearly assessing the management set-up and has now moved in brutal fashion with the corporate communications and PR department decimated.
Much loved Executive General Manager Brand, Marketing & Communications Jo King is gone after eight years along with popular long-time Head of Public Relations, Corporate Communications and Community Emily Morris, senior PR executive Kate Coughlan and advertising specialist Jo Constable and others.
The cutbacks had been forecast for weeks but hit home hard at VRC headquarters at Flemington on Tuesday.
Seven commentator and horse racing expert Jason Richardson was gutted by the news which has hit the industry hard, posting on social media: “So sad to hear the news of major redundancies at VRC.
“We have unfortunately lost some great people to the club and the wider racing industry.”
