The Melbourne Racing Club board is locked in a bitter stalemate to vote in a chairman.
The board failed to find a resolution during lengthy talks on Tuesday with a 5/5 split decision between controversial Caulfield rebel John Kanga and current vice chairman Nick Hassett.
Matt Cain officially stepped down as MRC chairman at the club’s annual general meeting at Caulfield Racecourse last Thursday night, while Page 13 revealed respected director Mark Pratt quit the board earlier this month amid the public campaign being waged by Kanga and his supporters.
It is just further chaos for a board in turmoil after Kanga filed a motion to spill the board last month and legal letters started flying.
Some members are concerned about the downright ugly “shemozzle” of the two warring factions if there was a shared chairman role, while another key insider flatly said “there will not be a joint chairman.”
A resolution on the chairman’s role is expected later this week.
