Kyle Sandilands may have kicked off his Melbourne breakfast radio debut with a crude sex reveal about national treasure Delta Goodrem.

But by the end of the week listeners finally heard why the shock jock has such cut through.

Yes, we are well aware we may come to rue these words.

But opening up about his own traumatic experiences of domestic violence at the hands of his father when he was just a young boy, is just what we need from our male celebrities with a platform to speak from, with a nation gripped in crisis.

Sandilands opened up about being raised in a household where “horrific” domestic violence was a common occurrence.

He recounted some of the disturbing memories that remain with him “as if it just happened half an hour ago.”

The radio host was candid on The Kyle & Jackie O Show, which has just launched into the Melbourne market on KIIS FM, as he discussed his violent childhood household, days after he pleaded with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to urgently do more for domestic violence victims.

“You’ve got to remember that I was a young child living in a domestic violence situation with my little brother and my mother,” he told co-host Jackie O Henderson on-air.

“My father would kick off,” he said. “It was horrific. And I would remember I was only really little. And my brother, we’d go into my room and I’d create a land of fantasy in my room with the matchbox cars, and they’d be screaming and things would be smashed. And I would spend all of my time there.”

The radio personality revealed that while he and his father mended their fractured relationship just before his father’s death in 2016, the psychological effects remain.

“I don’t like to bring this up because my father is dead now. And we fixed any problems we had and he apologised, but still we had to live with it,” Sandilands shared.

“He grabbed my mother by the back of her hair with one hand. And ripped her out of the bath backwards and dragged her kicking and screaming down the hallway in front of two little kids. And I can still see that as if it just happened half an hour ago. These things, they don’t leave little minds. They are in your head forever.”

This is the Sandilands that comes with power and strength.

Then there is the er, other Sandilands.

During a discussion about his co-star’s sex life on their Monday debut, Sandilands brought up his friend Goodrem, alleging that he’d once seen the singer engage in a wild act with ex-husband Brian McFadden.

Sandilands said he saw the couple “spit” into each other’s mouths at his home while they were dating.

“They’d just spit in each other’s mouths and giggle,” he claimed. “I was like … you’re in my lounge room what’s going on here… it was like Travis Barker and that old Kardashian.”
