Kyle Sandilands brands Jase and Lauren ‘cry babies’ after bus stunt

Kyle Sandilands has hit back at “cry babies” Lauren Phillips and Jase Hawkins before warning Fifi, Fev and Nick he’d be coming after them too as the breakfast radio war heats up.

Kyle Sandilands has hit back at radio rivals Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, calling them “cry babies” and vowing to continue his show’s marketing blitz of Melbourne.

Jase and Lauren were furious that KIIS FM had driven their big Kyle and Jackie O emblazoned bus through their meeting of fans in South Melbourne on Saturday.

Sandilands said the plan has worked and he’s in their heads.

“All we did was drive past by accident past a park where they were desperately shaking the hands of listeners,” he said on Friday.

“Don’t go carrying on your show about us just driving past. That’s a little bit of a wanker’s move, but the plan’s worked, I’m in their head.”

Sandilands mistakenly thought it happened on Thursday in a park – it was outside South Melbourne market – but then admitted it was deliberate.

“They’re really having a cry on the radio about our marketing campaign,” he said.

“It was surprising. Jase and Lauren, if you don’t know in Sydney, they’re like the Fitzy and Wippa of Melbourne, they’re there but not that great.

“Apparently on the way home from doing laps of Melbourne the bus drove past by coincidence, just drove past, didn’t stop. Yes five loops … that was on purpose, five loops.

“Jackie you don’t understand guerrilla marketing, it’s called marketing you don’t understand how that works.”

Jackie Henderson said Sandilands was being childish and petty but he played audio of Jase and Lauren discussing the incident while mock crying. He also warned FOX FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick he was coming after them too.

“This one is by accident, don’t worry if you’re at FOX FM we’ll be bombarding all their events,” he said.

The comments come after Lauren Phillips and Jase Hawkins labelled KIIS FM’s gatecrashing stunt at the weekend as “tasteless” and “poor form”.

Phillips and Hawkins were meeting listeners for their $10,000 handshake competition in South Melbourne on Saturday when a bright pink KIIS bus decked out with the Kyle and Jackie O branding hovered across their meet and greet on Cecil St.

“It’s pretty poor form though to turn up to our event,’’ Phillips said on Thursday.

“I must say because, I mean, they fired us. We haven’t done anything wrong to them. They got rid of us, told us we weren’t good enough. And now they’re turning up to where we’re standing there with the people that love our show and listen to our show. And trying to sabotage, it’s a bit tasteless.

Hawkins said it was bully-like behaviour.

“You know me I’m all up for a bit of fun and I’m cheeky and stuff like that,’’ he said.

“But I find it’s bully like behaviour and it’s like you shafted at us.”

Their co-host Clint Stanaway said it was “puerile and embarrassing” and fans were angry.

“Just quickly the reaction they got from our people was something to behold,’’ he said.

Phillips added: “Yeah we did have to hold them back and say don’t give them flat tyres.

“It’s not lost on us that without all of you, we wouldn’t get to do this awesome job that we get to do every morning.”

Jase and Lauren were axed by KIIS FM last November to make way for Kyle and Jackie O. Phillips broke down during their final show, revealing they’d learnt they were getting the boot just hours earlier. They were picked up by Nova 100 and debuted on air in March.
