Media mogul Craig Hutchison is taking on one of his biggest roles yet — turning peacemaker in the ugly feud between brothers Matty and Andrew Johns.
The SEN boss, who is no stranger to public battles, will try to smooth the escalating angst after tensions flared about three weeks ago.
Andrew, known as Joey, went on Matty’s SEN radio show and they had a difference of opinion regarding State of Origin. Joey is a passionate assistant coach with NSW.
Joey has not returned to the studios since, despite being under contract with the network to appear on 20 of Matty’s shows during the footy season.
Matty this week declared he heard his brother Andrew “wants to bash him”.
Hutchison has reached out to mend bridges but has so far failed in his attempt to broker a resolution.
He said on his podcast, The Sounding Board, that he is confident it will be sorted after the Origin series.
“In Matt’s words, Andrew was not paying attention, watching a bit of TV on the side, Matt made some comments about how he thinks Queensland are well coached … Andrew took a little offence, hit back … clearly a high pressure time … they haven’t spoken since,’’ Hutchison said.
“Andrew is keen to focus on Origin for the next few weeks … we love him and we love Matt. They’re brothers and every single Australian family will relate to a difference of opinion. They see it a bit differently. They’ll be fine.”
