Collingwood Football Club creating more drama than Netflix

The Pies already have the comedy (the Hawthorn game), the controversy (Jaidyn Stephenson’s $36 bet), and the suspense (denials of a rift with the players). So why would Swan, Beams and Treloar throw in a “raw and uncensored” pub night?

Who needs a Netflix drama when you’ve got the Collingwood football club?

There are laughs (the Hawthorn game). There is controversy (Jaidyn Stephenson and his $36). There is suspense (denials of an alleged rift in the playing group).

So with all this smooth sailing we at Page 13 were scratching our heads to see Collingwood great Dane Swan and current players Dayne Beams and Adam Treloar putting their heads up for a “raw and uncensored” night.

It is part of visiting fans in an up close and personal show at The York on Lilydale on Tuesday, August 13.

The Magpie Magic event promoted through Facebook is being plugged as “raw and uncensored”.

“With so much controversy at the Pies of late, come and hear the uncensored low down straight from the players themselves,” the post said.

So, yep. What could possibly go wrong with this?

For those who come in late, Swan’s “the Humpday Podcast” — including Essendon great Scott Cummings and former Footy Show producer Ralph Horowitz — suspended production last week after an outcry over a recent episode which included a segment about sex acts.

The shut down followed criticisms by social activist groups, including acting chief executive of Domestic Violence Victoria, Alison Macdonald.

On top of this, Dayne Beams has stepped away from the game in order to focus on his mental health battle.

Beams also shone the light on some genuinely disturbing online trolling he had been experiencing.

We allayed any fears by calling the club to see if players had been offered guidance on just how “raw and uncensored” they could be.

We were told it was “not a Collingwood event” and “players do sportsman’s nights all the time”.

And also “there is no Collingwood IP (intellectual property) on the event”.

Well that’s a relief!

Venue manager Leigh Mountford this week told media the event would have a Q and A.

“They’re still involved and want to come and talk about their stories, share laughs and open it up to a Q and A forum,” Mr Mountford said.

“It’s raw and uncensored so it could go anywhere.”

Swan has been busy since ending the podcast, in the last week he was in Tel Aviv, Israel, and even did a coaching session with the South Tel Aviv Dragons football club.

“Deck was a little rough and I kicked it horribly (pretty much like my whole career) but what can you do,” he said on Instagram.
