Keep on truckin’.
“That’s what it’s always been about” said our favourite up-market trucker from his hospital bed on Friday.
Rest assured, the old fox behind the famous Linfox trucking empire is in good spirits.
The 84-year-old was rushed to a Melbourne hospital on Sunday after “hitting the ground” in the Essendon Fields hangar he co-owns with developer Max Beck.
He said 11 hours having X-rays and tests followed with doctors saying he has significant injuries to his leg and a cracked pelvis.
“I was just walking along,” Lindsay Fox told Page 13.
“Then my blood pressure dropped and I was hitting the ground.
“An ambulance brought me to hospital and I have been here ever since.
“I have a crack in my pelvis and my leg, but I’m not in pain. The hospital has been very good and they are looking after me.”
The billionaire trucker did not say if Premier Dan Andrews had called to pass on his regards after suffering his own tumble in March last year, which resulted in a broken back.
The Premier is a good friend of Fox’s son, Andrew Fox, head of Linfox’s airport and property divisions and there is still scuttlebutt down Sorrento way (isn’t there always) that Dan was with the Fox clan at the time of the stumble, sorry tumble. All denied of course.
But cracking gags is a good sign and Fox was in a jovial mood.
The last time Page 13 spoke to the trucking magnate was after his 83rd birthday, deep during Covid lockdowns.
It followed news of life-threatening heart surgery for Paula, his beloved wife of more than 60 years.
Together in sickness and in health.
“That’s what marriages are about, when you are in pain.”
It’s quite the quote. Best wishes, Lindsay.
