Delta Goodrem has hit out at the ‘faceless cowards’ at Woman’s Day who have a ‘relentless’ fascination with writing negative stories about her.

Goodrem sent messages of support to Rebel Wilson after she won her court case against the magazine.

“A lot of people in the industry were watching this case with interest,” Goodrem said. “To see Rebel stand up to bullies has been an incredible to watch. She’s made a really important moment happen in Australia.”

Woman’s Day’s most recent story about Goodrem claimed she was being a diva on the set of The Voice, insisting on specific food being spoonfed to her.

“I mean saying I am being spoonfed on the set is ridiculous to the extreme, there’s absolutely no truth in it at all,” Goodrem said.

“It’s become relentless. I’ve had so many baby shocks and engagements, some of them you just have to laugh off. But you get these stories trying to wreck your career and your professional reputation. My intention is to lift people up and make them happy.

“Any diva accusations are so unfounded. Can’t you sell a story with facts? The fact is we work hard at being good role models. I wouldn’t haven been at The Voice for six years if I was such a diva, not that I need to justify it. It’s important that people don’t buy the lies and bullying.”

Goodrem said many celebrities dreaded what the magazines would print on a Monday.

Many stories are attributed to mysterious “sources” and celebrities are rarely contacted to confirm or deny a story.

“Certain magazines are trying to bring you down for no reason, they’re really faceless cowards who make up whatever they want, these outrageous stories,” Goodrem said.

“I’ve been doing this for a while. Sometimes you step back think that this is part of being in the public eye. But why should we accept people being able to outlandishly lie about us? The media should be better than that. There are some great journalists out there, but some people just aren’t accountable and make up idle gossip. And unfortunately some people believe the lies. It’s hard at times when it keeps going to look past that and remember there are so many great people out there.”

Goodrem was hopefully Wilson’s victory would have wider impact.

“There’s kids and families seeing that this isn’t tolerated. When you write with this kind of malice it sets a really low standard and tone. It’s important we stand up and speak up, it’s time to change the conversation and make a difference. We tell our kids not to lie.

“A lot of my friends have had stories made up about them. We have to stop focusing on the loud minority of keyboard warriors. It’s important to remember the greater number of Australians out there are supportive, it’s healthier to focus on that.

“I really believe if we start to set the right tone people will read positive stories and inspirational stories. Rather than reading about taking someone else down to make yourself feel better, being positive is the way to move forward.”
