REBEL Wilson’s mum has tearfully defended her famous daughter saying she’s just a normal girl from a normal bogan family.
“She’s not a liar,” was Sue Bownds simple message when she took the stand at the actor’s libel trial in the Supreme Court today.
“They’re painting it out that she’s a spoiled little rich kid that went to a private school,” she said.
“They’re painting a picture that we are wealthy. We’re clearly not wealthy, we’re just a normal family.
“I accept I am a bogan,” she said.
Wilson, 37, is suing Bauer Media over a series of articles she says painted her as a serial liar who had lied about her real name, age and upbringing.

Opinion: Yes Rebel, it’s good to be a bogan
Mrs Bownds said nothing Wilson had ever claimed was untrue, except for telling David Letterman she grew up in a ghetto, saying: “that was a joke”.
She also cleared up the debate about Wilson’s real name saying she was called Rebel for the first six weeks of her life, but registered as Melanie because of pressure from family members over the unusual name.
And she became emotional talking about the breakdown of her marriage, prompting Wilson’s move to boarding school.
Rebel lobbied to have article wiped to keep age secret
It came after Wilson finished her evidence, following more than six days in the witness box, saying she was the victim of a relentless bullying and intimidation campaign.
She also slammed as “absolute bulls..t” claims she was a serial liar.
Wilson hit out at Bauer Media saying they had continued to bully and harass her in the lead up to the trial.
“They’re so slimy,” she said.
“They know I’m not a liar ... it’s shameful, I can’t believe they sit here and try and fight this case, and fight me. They bully and intimidate me. I can’t describe how hurtful it is. I can’t put it into exact words.
“They know I haven’t made up stories, they know I’m an authentic candid person. That’s why I’m popular in America. I didn’t have to invent anything.
“They know everything I say is truthful. The fact they sit here and try and sling mud at me to try and further intimidate me just makes me so upset.”
Wilson’s sister Annaleise also gave evidence saying she grew up in a normal, middle class family.
The hearing, before Justice John Dixon, continues.
