Mia Fevola knocked back chance to compete on SAS Australia

It was Brendan Fevola’s “dad advice” which ultimately sealed daughter Mia’s decision after she was asked to star on a blockbuster TV show.

Mia Fevola has turned down an offer to compete on SAS Australia.

Fevola, the daughter of AFL champion and broadcaster Brendan Fevola, was approached by the Channel 7 reality show for the latest series.

“My daughter (Mia) was asked to go on (SAS Australia) this year, but she said no,” Brendan Fevola said on the Fox FM radio show he co-hosts with Fifi Box and Nick Cody.

“She’s physically not strong enough, and she knows that, but she’s trying to build up to get physical and be able to do stuff like that. (But) I said take the cash and get voted off first. That was my dad advice.”

SAS Australia instructor Ant Middleton, who appeared n the radio show, said: “If you’re not physically strong enough, don’t come on the course. If you come on there, and don’t show the attributes and physical characteristics we’re looking for, which is physical and mental resilience ... I’m going to get rid of you straight away.”

The primetime TV offer came after Mia hit the spotlight again by revealing she is in a relationship with rising AFL star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

But the social media post confirming their romance was met by vile trolling.

Brendan Fevola defended his daughter and slammed the cowardly abusers.

“Blokes can do whatever they want,” he said. “They can go and date girls and no one judges them. It’s a lad thing. But as soon as a girl does it …

“Mia’s been with a couple of football players. That’s OK. People date tradies. That’s their profession.

“She was with Josh (Battle) for a little bit. Dated Daniel (Rioli). He was part of the family (but) they moved on, they haven’t been together for nearly two years. He’s moved on with another girl which is great for Daniel. He’s a great kid.

“Now she’s met this other guy, Jamarra. Great kid. Young boy. And they started dating before he even started playing football. He wasn’t drafted at all.

“All the trolls that come out and pot people, and the keyboard warriors ... it’s just not on.”

Fevola said Mia had been rocked by the response to her photograph.

“She posted a picture of Jamarra and herself for the first time yesterday and absolutely got hammered (with abuse),” he said.

“She rang up, she was upset, and we were like, ‘You shouldn’t put a picture up’, but then why shouldn’t she? That’s her boyfriend, they’ve been together for nearly eight months or something, they’ve been together for a long time and were really classy and quiet about it. They didn’t go public, they didn’t put it out anywhere.

“As soon as she goes out and does something like that and posts a picture, you get idiots behind a keyboard — mostly men — hammering her.

“As a father, that hurts. That hurts me that they think that of Mia. She can date whoever she wants, she can go out with whoever she wants, whenever she wants. She’s a 21-year-old girl. When we were 21 we were doing whatever we wanted.

“He’s a great kid, she’s a great girl, she’s smart, she’s got her own business, she studies, she’s got a degree … she can do what she wants.

“It just p-sses me off that people can write that and say vile things online about any girl, not just Mia.”

Soon after, Ugle-Hagan took to Instagram to support Mia.

“It’s been a tough morning for a young woman, as she’s received a lot of attention, involving her personal life,” he wrote.

“Nobody deserves to feel fearful and nervous about posting on any social media platform.

“You’re one of many strong women @mia.fev,” he added with a love heart emoji.
