Melbourne funnyman Glenn Robbins says he turned down an offer to star in a hit Hollywood movie.
Robbins, star of Kath And Kim and All Aussie Adventures, was sounded out by Tinseltown casting agents to play the dad of Australian actor Rebel Wilson’s character in Pitch Perfect 3.
The role eventually went to celebrated US actor Jon Lithgow.
Robbins said he was filming All Aussie Adventures, playing idiot adventurer Russell Coight, when the Hollywood offer came through.
“I would have had to ask for time off,” Robbins told Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee on Fox FM. “(But) I said, ‘Can I see the script, please?’”
LA stopped calling after that.
“They wouldn’t show me the script, so I didn’t hear from them again. If it’s not right, it’s not right. You’ve got to go in with passion,” Robbins said, adding: “I was very proud to think (Lithgow) was the next guy.”
The film, which stars Anna Kendrick, grossed $185 million worldwide, becoming the second-highest earning musical comedy film of all time, behind Pitch Perfect 2.
