Kate Langbroek is returning to Melbourne radio in 2021, while her longtime co-host and great mate, Dave Hughes, will join Sydney breakfast radio.
After a two-year sabbatical with her family in Bologna, Italy, Langbroek will be back next month and is joining KIIS FM to co-host the new look 3PM Pick Up.
There was speculation she would reunite Hughes, but it’s now been confirmed he will host 2DAY FM breakfast alongside Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.
Langbroek will join Monty Dimond and Yumi Stynes as part of the line up on the show from January 27, replacing Bec Judd who is deciding to take a break from media.
“After our family adventures in Italy, I’m looking forward to returning to magnificent Australia — and ARN — and getting to speak my native language, radio,’’ Langbroek said.
“I’ve missed eavesdropping on conversations I can actually understand and hanging out with like-minded friends, so naturally I am beyond excited to team up with those two Aperol Spritzes, Monty and Yumi, for some afternoon fun and funniness. Which reminds me, I promise I won’t be one of those infuriating people who returns from a stint abroad with an accent and entirely new vocabulary.”
Langbroek, who had a guest role with Hughes and Ed Kavalee on FOX FM drive, previously hosted KIIS FM’s Drive Show with Hughes from 2015 to 2017. They launched together on Nova in 2001.
The 2DAY FM Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin will kick off 6-9am on January 18.
“My inbox is already full of DMs from Sydney real estate agents,’’ Hughes said.
“Look, I can’t buy all of them but I’ll have a crack! Until then I will be staying in Kyle Sandilands’ pool house. In all seriousness, I have a ball working with Ed and I’m super pumped to be working with Erin. This is going to be a blast. From 10am every day you will find me at the Bondi outdoor gym busting shirtless workouts until my manboobs get rock hard.”
An hour of the show will be broadcast nationally across the Hit Network at 6pm.
Langbroek returned to Melbourne in June to visit her unwell father, but spent much of this year in lockdown.
She said last week: “Basically after two years of living in Italy we are going to slide on out like the Bachelorette’s fiance with no fanfare and I still will not have been to Rome, and now I can’t go. I am not allowed to leave my region,” she told the Hughesy and Ed show.
