Hugh Jackman has spent his 50th year taking his most high-energy tour to date around the world.

Jackman’s The Man. The Music. The Show tour started in Europe in May and will end in Mexico in October.

The live show comes on the back of the success of The Greatest Showman and features many of the most popular songs from the film.

Jackman started his six sold-out Rod Laver Arena shows on Friday night. To accommodate The Greatest Showman’s young fanbase, he’s playing matinee shows at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m also 50, I want to go to bed between shows,” Jackman joked to the Herald Sun.

“It’s been amazing to me what The Greatest Showman has done in terms of reaching a younger fanbase. It’s made it difficult going to my daughter’s dance classes.

“I used to go every week and nobody really cared. The dance school was not your classic Wolverine fanbase. Now I go and the songs from The Greatest Showman are playing in nearly every dance class so it’s a bit different.”

In the new show Jackman also performs songs from his hero Peter Allen, as a nod to his time in The Boy From Oz, songs from Les Miserables, as well as his spin on classics from Somewhere Over the Rainbow to AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.

The superstar is also making the show as interactive as possible.

“I tell a bunch of stories I’ve never told before from when I was younger, some of the decisions I made, not all ones I’m proud of. I wanted to make the show relatable for kids. I’m trying to mix it up a lot.”

Jackman is joined on the tour by Showman co-star Keala Settle, who sang the movie’s hit This Is Me.

Hugh Jackman plays Rod Laver Arena on Saturday (2pm, 8pm), tomorrow (2pm, 8pm) and august 27 (8pm)
