Gold Logie winning actor Samuel Johnson is home from hospital but still has “a lot more work ahead” to make a full recovery from being hit by a car.

Johnson will wear a neck brace for four more weeks as he gave his first update since the serious accident in June.

“Woot, I’m home!,’’ Johnson posted on the Love your Sister charity Facebook page on Monday night.

“So, I got into a dust-up with a small white vehicle, and lost badly! Huge props to the gang at Ambulance Victoria, VicPol, The Alfred and The Epworth for putting this Humpty back together again.”

Johnson posted a picture of himself smiling beside his sister Hilde Hinton who had first posted the news of his condition on June 21. She said he had been on his way to visit family when the accident happened and he was nursing a sore head.

He said he has resumed light work duties and losing none of his sense of humour, signed off his update as “Slightly Wobbly Unicyclist”.

“Won’t bore you with all the medical stuffski, suffice to say I’ve been surrounded by a gang of experts, including the Occupational Therapist, who says it’s OK for me to go back to work on ‘light duties’ today!,’’ he wrote.

“When you’ve been hit by a vehicle, little or otherwise, it can take a while to un-wonk yourself. Full recovery is within my grasp, I’ve just got a lot more work ahead of me. I feel very lucky to be OK, but I’m worried about what cancer is getting away with whilst I am on the mend.

“You can help those who are fighting cancer tooth and nail on the daily — I’ve seen the difference that medical research can make. Lend me a hand while I’m getting betterer? Get amongst it here www.loveyoursister.org

“In the meantime, I’ve got a date with a hydrotherapy pool. Be right back!”

While Johnson has been on the mend, Hinton thanked everyone for the flood of support.

She wrote on June 25: “He said he wanted to thank the doctors, the nurses and the ward staff for all the wonderful care he’s receiving (me too, x 1,000). And, to all the carers out there, he’s said thank you before – but he wanted to say it again (as do I). Flanks.

“He misses being at work and, because it’s the first thing he asks about, I’ve been giving him daily updates from LYS HQ.

“They’re busy taking care of everything until he can return, which makes him happy. He said ‘I miss Love Your Sister’, and he reckons he’s going to be an even better Cancer Vanquisher ‘because f — cancer’.

“They reckon he’ll be out of hospital in a couple of weeks, so I’ll hand him back our Facebook page (for now – *wink*) and let him do the next update.

“PS I’m proud to be part of this Village. Your messages of support are hugs to me – thanks for taking the time.”

Almost 11,000 comments were first left on the post about Johnson.

Music guru Molly Meldrum, who was played by Johnson in his 2016 mini series of his life, sent a special message to the man who won a Gold and Silver Logie for the role.

“I thought that Sam having to play me on TV was already enough bad luck, so I’m terribly sorry to hear Sam’s had an accident,’’ Meldrum said.

“I hope he recovers very soon, but as anyone who saw the miniseries knows, if you can run after a train in your undies then you’re pretty tough. Love you, Molly.”

Johnson created the Love Your Sister charity after his late sibling Connie Johnson dared him to unicycle around Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The actor — who was crowned Victoria’s 2018 Australian of the Year for his efforts — went on to raise more than $13 million through the charity.
