Footy champion Gavin Wanganeen has revealed his ambition to win and warned he’s not to be underestimated ahead of his appearance on Australian Survivor.
The Brownlow medallist is a surprise contender on the Brains v Brawn series of Channel 10’s tough reality TV show.
“I made my mark on football and I’d love to be able to make my mark on Survivor,’’ Wanganeen says in a new promo which aired on Tuesday night.
“I want to be the first Indigenous person to win Australian Survivor, how cool will that be.
“I think people will definitely underestimate me because they’re going to be thinking he’s a dumb ex footballer. When I’m ready to play the beast comes out so don’t mess with me.”
Wanganeen, 48, won the 1993 Brownlow when playing for Essendon and then finished his illustrious career with Port Adelaide. He won a premiership with both sides and notched 300 games from 1991-2006.
His Survivor stint was confirmed earlier this month in a Mad Max style ‘first look’ at the new season.
The hit show was filmed in Cloncurry, 1700 kilometres north west of Brisbane in outback Queensland after COVID-19 restrictions made it too difficult for 10 to shoot the show in its usual location of Fiji.
Survivor Australia is hosted again by Jonathan La Paglia.
