Brownlow medallist Gavin Wanganeen has been revealed as a surprise contender on a ruthless reality TV show.
Wanganeen, 47, who won the 1993 Brownlow when playing for Essendon, is stepping into TV’s toughest game as a contestant on Channel 10’s Australian Survivor.
“I made my mark on football and I would love to be able to make my mark on Survivor,” Wanganeen said.
The former AFL great’s new challenge was confirmed in a Mad Max style ‘first look’ at the new season of Australian Survivor titled Brains V Brawn which aired on 10 on Monday night.
The hit show was filmed in Cloncurry, 1700 kilometres north west of Brisbane in outback Queensland after COVID-19 restrictions made it too difficult for 10 to shoot the show in its usual location of Fiji.
Wanganeen played 300 games in his decorated AFL career.
He was part of Essendon’s 1993 premiership winning team before moving to Port Adelaide in 1997 as the Club’s inaugural AFL captain.
Later in his career he was part of Port Adelaide’s 2004 premiership team.
Wanganeen, whose footy career spanned 1991 - 2006, is now an accomplished artist.
The air date for Australian Survivor: Brains V Brawn is yet to be revealed by 10.
