‘Unlimited potential’: Brian Taylor’s glowing prophesy for Aussie favourite Tony Armstong

Brian Taylor has predicted a glowing future for rising star and Australian favourite Tony Armstrong, calling his potential “unlimited”.

Footy great Brian Taylor has predicted TV greatness is ahead for ABC favourite Tony Armstrong, likening him to young Collingwood star Nick Daicos.

Armstrong was nominated for Gold at last weekend’s Logie Awards, but was pipped by Larry Emdur.

Taylor, a close friend of Armstrong, said there were plenty more opportunities – and Logie nominations – ahead for the charismatic presenter, saying it was a “touch early” for him to win gold.

“I am excited for him, he is only three years in (to his TV career) for goodness sake,” Taylor said.

“He is Nick Daicos trying to win the Brownlow (in 2023).”

When Armstrong won the Best New Talent Logie in 2022 he thanked Taylor in his acceptance speech.

The pair struck up a friendship when Tony became mates with Taylor’s sons when they were at school together at Assumption College.

“He (Tony) was a boarder and he used to spend weekends at our place and lived with us for a while,” Taylor told the Sunday Herald Sun in February this year.

“He played junior footy with our kids. He was a great young man.”

Taylor went on to mentor Armstrong in media and recommended him to Triple M radio where Armstrong started doing special comments for the footy in 2019.

“Being just a little tiny ingredient in what he is doing now has been important,” Taylor said.

“It has been a lot of fun seeing him blossom.

“He has unlimited potential in a whole wide range of areas.”
