Global fashion inspiration Trinny Woodall literally sold the clothes off her back to fund her Trinny London makeup empire.

“I did have 20 years in fashion that included high fashion so I had a lot of catwalk pieces,” Woodall said during her whirlwind Melbourne visit this week.

“I had raised a little bit of money which did the formulation funding and the prototype funding, but then I ran out. I did two big sales and I raised $60,000, this was 2012.

“I sold probably 80 per cent of my clothes and then over the next 10 year then I built up those clothes a little bit.”

Woodall has a passionate following, known as the Trinny Tribe. A mention on her social media on Thursday that she was making an impromptu visit to Westfield Doncaster saw a crowd waiting for her.

“So I took 200 people to Zara for a shop up,” she said.

Woodall, 58, of What Not To Wear TV fame, is getting better with age.

“Like your granny might have said, with age comes wisdom,” she said.

“It sounds so trite now, because we have heard it so often, but I think that because your attitude to things change (as you age) you can hear better, you can learn better.

“Weirdly I think I learned more in my 50s than I learnt in my 20s because my 20s was full of my own opinion, which I did not believe in so I held on to even more dearly. You can get to your 50s and not worry so much about what other people think and find out more what your opinion is, so it is a very settling time.”

Woodall brought together a powerhouse gathering of young female business builders for a private dinner at Society on Friday, with guest including Laura Henshaw, Erin Deering, Priscilla Hajiantoni, Bree Johnson and Kate Morris.

She said her mission was: was: “How can I leave every woman feeling better?”
