The Rundown: Capper and Nixon bury the hatchet after birthday feud

Capper and Nixon have decided to bury the hatchet after a drawn out birthday feud. But the former Swans high-flyer maintains he is “more popular”.

Brighton will be home to Channel 10’s new season of The Bachelor.

An uneasy truce has been called in Melbourne’s bizarre party wars with Ricky Nixon and Warwick Capper burying the hatchet.

However Capper still maintains: “I am more popular (and) I’ve got more friends,” than Nixon and has no intention of growing old claiming “mate, I act my jock size.”

Capper and Nixon had a drawn out public spat over a planned joint 60th birthday party.

After a disagreement over how many guests each could invite, they opted for rival gatherings at the same venue in Port Melbourne a week apart earlier this month.

Their seismic split was termed as the “commotion near the ocean” by mutual friend Sam Newman who brought the recalcitrant pair together to mend their fractured friendship on his You Cannot Be Serious podcast.

Newman was one of only two people who were granted access to both parties.

“Back in February we spoke about a joint 60th, to be honest we both thought it probably wasn’t ideal, then we both said yes, then we both agreed it was best to do it individually,” Nixon told the podcast.

“Ricky was right, I said I would think about having a dual one and then I changed my mind cause I wanted to have me own party, I have me own friends, (and) I thought it would be best that way,” Capper said.

“He got a bit shitty about it, but we worked it out.

“I did say he could come and bring 50 friends, but he did not like that and he got the shits.

“He said ‘get f**ked.’ I said ‘f**k you’.”

Nixon retorted: “When one person says he can have 400 people there and I can have 50, I don’t think that is an equalisation, last time I checked.”

Asked by Newman if it was time the pair grew up and acted their age, Capper said: “I don’t want to act my age, mate, I act my jock size.”

Bachelor love-seekers touch down in Brighton

The Bachelor has landed in Melbourne’s cashed-up suburb of Brighton.

The Herald Sun can exclusively reveal the Channel 10 dating show is embedded in a grand six-bedroom mansion a stone’s throw from one of the late Shane Warne’s trophy homes.

The stunning property is located in one of Brighton’s most prestigious streets.

Hidden behind a large imposing wall and gate, the show, which this season features Melbourne model Ben Waddell, Queensland based, former NRL player, Luke Bateman, and Brazilian-born Sydneysider Wesley Senna Cortes as the love-seeking missiles looking for “the one”, was busy filming on Monday evening.

The mansion was illuminated in a soft pink hue, with production marquees set up on the tennis court at the front of the house.

The side of the property was dressed with hundreds of fairy lights, creating a romantic, twinkling arbour for the bachelors and their bachelorettes to emerge from or disappear through.

A gaggle of women emerged from an unremarkable mini-van at the property late Monday afternoon with all sporting the traditional Bachelorette adornments of a heavy layer of fake tan and long hair extensions.

Make-up artists, men carting props and lighting equipment, field producers and people carrying garment bags were going in and out of the property as a generator hummed on the curve with two port-a-loos parked next to it.

The home in Middle Crescent appears to have last been traded in 2015 for $6.4m.

Its listing from that time described it as exceptionally secure, private and quiet.

The magnificent 1850s Victorian residence is set within resort style grounds with a swimming pool, a floodlit tennis court, 3.5 bathrooms, an expansive alfresco entertaining terrace, a billiards room with bar and features towering ceilings and grand room sizes.

The Bachelors Australia is set in Melbourne for the first time this season and is filming group dates and single dates around the city, on the Mornington Peninsula and in the Yarra Valley. The series started filming earlier this month.

Capper gets down and dirty with Newman

Former footy high flyer Warwick Capper says he wasn’t offered enough money to go on Channel 10’s “shit” show, Amazing Race Australia.

And says he would do I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here if he was paid a million dollars — so don’t expect to see him in the jungle any time soon.

Capper spouted earlier this year that he would be part of the celebrity cast racing around the world on the Amazing Race Australia, but when filming got underway two months ago he was not part of the line up.

He told Sam Newman’s You Cannot Be Serious podcast that he couldn’t get a big enough offer out of 10 and its production company to make it worth his while.

“I was supposed to go, that is why I had the party (his 60th birthday) a month later, but they f —ked me over,” he told the podcast.

“First they said a fair amount, then they tried to lower the money, then they wanted me to go another four weeks with my son, and I said ‘I’ve got too many jobs on … I am actually going to lose (money) for that shit show (if he went on it).”

Capper claimed 10 had also sounded him out for I’m A Celebrity, but did not specify if it was a recent or historical approach.

“I said ‘how much did Warnie get?’ They said ‘a mill,’ I said ‘you’ll need $1.3m if you want me because you have B-class celebrities and I am A-class and I don’t like eating rat’s balls’,” Capper said.

Channel 10 has been approached for comment.

The You Cannot Be Serious podcast episode featuring Capper squaring off against his birthday wars foe Ricky Nixon is released tomorrow, Wednesday, July 26.

Hunted may send viewers running

Has Hunted jumped the shark?

Was Monday’s episode where Fugitives Ben and Callum randomly met a guy called Matt at a country train station and went back to his place to hide out, only to be caught by the Ground Hunters after their good Samaritan turned out to be the brother of Ground Hunter Kellie, a step too far?

While Channel 10 and the Ground Hunters and Fugitives are adamant that Ben and Callum encountering Matt was totally random, many viewers are finding the coincidence hard to swallow.

Hunted is a terrific show that asks viewers to suspend their disbelief.

Could this storyline twist have asked too much of the fans and turned part of the audience off?

Bachelor revelations

The Bachelor is about to chalk up another love match with Jimmy Nicholson and Holly Kingston preparing to tie the knot in a matter of weeks.

The couple, who met on The Bachelor in 2021, will marry in Sydney in August.

“The wedding is in Sydney and then almost the next day we head straight over to Italy and we are spending four weeks in Europe, Italy, Greece and then Spain,” Nicholson told the Back To Reality podcast.

The podcast episode was full of behind the scenes Bachelor revelations.

The commitment ring the Bachelor gives his chosen girl needs to fit both women who make it to the top two.

“I still have not had it resized,” Kingston said of the ring Nicholson gave her on the grand final episode of the show.

“It has to fit both girls, whoever he picked, so I am guessing they just did middle ground (with the ring size).”

And there is a firm rule about what is allowed when kissing on reality TV.

“So, no tongue is to be used when you kiss on a reality TV show, otherwise, it looks disgusting,” Nicholson said.

“I didn’t know that, so I’m on there and they have the most aggressive close ups ever, it’s just massive and you can just see your face from different angles.”

Bachelors who have gone on to marry their TV chosen partners include Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich, Sam Wood and Snezana Markoski, Georgia Love and Lee Elliott, Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne, and Locky Gilbert and Irena Srbinovska.

Sunrise backs Sonia for Logie

The campaigning for Gold Logie votes is in full swing.

Sunrise has gone so far as to have “Onya Sonia” T-shirts printed to remind people to vote for Sonia Kruger.

That wins for creativity so far.
