Social media darling Elyse Knowles in the doghouse over ‘demeaning’ video

Social media darling and Myer ambassador Elyse Knowles has been forced to apologise after posting a video that provoked outrage among some, who declared it demeaning to women.

Myer ambassador Elyse Knowles has apologised for posting an insensitive Instagram video that showed her being walked like a dog.

The video, that was intended to be lighthearted, was posted on the @JoshandElyse Instagram page last week.

Knowles’ huge social media audience immediately reacted with some fans pleading for the video to be removed believing it was demeaning to women.

The video was quickly deleted.

Knowles on Saturday said she sincerely apologised for causing offence.

“I hope that people who know me well would know I would never intentionally cause offence but I do understand how it could have been negatively received despite my intentions,” Knowles said.

“It was an error on my behalf and to anyone I have offended I truly apologise.”

It is understood Myer, for whom Knowles is a high profile ambassador, was concerned by the video.

When asked the brand position on the post Myer’s Head of Public Relations Melissa Templeton said: “We love working with Elyse and having her as part of our Myer Ambassador family and will continue to support Elyse in her role with Myer.

“Interactions and conversations with our ambassadors and their management are confidential and this is not something we would provide comment on publicly.”

Knowles is a noted animal lover and proud owner of several dogs.

She is one of Australia’s most successful social media identities so the clumsy post was most out of character.
