TV legend Daryl Somers has confirmed he has handed over the Dancing With The Stars mirror ball for the last time.

Somers has been replaced as host of the popular Channel 7 show by Dr Chris Brown.

The Sunday Herald Sun broke the story and Somers on Monday and wished Brown well at the helm of the show.

“Just wanted to confirm the speculation that I will not be hosting Dancing With The Stars in 2024,” Somers wrote in a statement released on social media.

“Seven let me know recently that they have signed Chris Brown to the network full-time and amongst his commitments he will be hosting DWTS.

“I realise how fortunate I have been to have had such a long and wonderful run with the program.

“Over a 20-year span, starting in 2004, I have completed 10 series, the last one being a huge ratings success.

“Off the back of that I am happy to hand the Mirror Ball over to Chris and wish him all the very best.

“He should enjoy working with a great team both in front of and behind the camera.

“While I shall miss the fun of working with my Gold Logie buddy Sonia (Kruger), the quick-witted Todd McKenney and Mark Wilson ‘on the end’, I am now unencumbered to pursue the projects I put on hold during Covid and shall have some exciting news on that score early next year.”

Channel 7 will officially announce Brown as the show’s new host on Wednesday.

An inkling of the future pairing of Kruger and Brown came at the Logie Awards in July when the duo hosted the heavily watched celebrity arrivals show for Seven.

In one of the highest profile TV poachings in decades, the marketable and much liked Brown was nabbed from Channel 10 by Seven earlier this year.

Brown is understood to have been keen on a three-show opportunity from Seven, as he had at 10 where he was seen on The Living Room, I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here and Bondi Vet.

His move to Seven will see him host the network’s new renovation show, Dream Home and his own as yet untitled animal/travel series.

That leaves a third spot open and Dancing looks like the perfect groove for the versatile Brown.

Somers, who garnered plenty of commentary as the presenter of this year’s Gold Logie, has hosted Dancing With The Stars for Seven since the network rebooted the dazzling family orientated show in 2021 after it was dropped by 10.

Somers was the original host of the show, helming the production for its first seven seasons from 2004.

Other hosts have included Daniel MacPherson, Shane Bourne, Spice Girl Mel B, Amanda Keller, Grant Denyer and Edwina Bartholomew.

Somers, 72, is a genuine Australian TV legend having created and hosted Hey Hey It’s Saturday during its 28-year run and won three Gold Logies.

Brown won a legion of fans for his work alongside Julia Morris on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

His replacement on I’m A Celebrity is yet to be announced.

Channel 7 has been approached for comment.
