Molly Meldrum’s emotional reunion with famous pop protege

Music guru Molly Meldrum has had an emotional reunion with one of his most famous pop proteges after almost 25 years, Peter Andre.

Music guru Molly Meldrum has rendezvoused with one of his most famous pop protege more than 20 years after their last meeting.

London-based Peter Andre visited Meldrum at his Richmond home last week with the nostalgic meeting marking the first time the pair had seen each other in person in 25 years.

“It was fantastic,” Meldrum said.

“It was brilliant to see him.”

The Mysterious Girl singer said Meldrum was the reason why he had a singing career.

“He was, and is, a very important part of my life because he taught me a lot of things,” Andre said on The Morning Show.

“Sometimes I did not listen, and I wish that I did, because he signed me when everyone else at the record company probably thought ‘what are you doing?’.

“But he saw something.

“Even to this day I ring him every couple of months.”

Meldrum signed the Sydney-based Andre to his Melodian record label in the early 19990s after seeing the singer/dancer perform on the TV talent show New Faces.

From there Meldrum guided his early career with Andre’s hits including Mysterious Girl, Funky Junky, which featured Livinia Nixon in the film clip, and Gimme A Little

Andre moved to London in 1996 and went on to release the chart topping singles Flava and I Feel You that year.

His career slumped in the early 2000s, but he was revived as a pop culture identity and tabloid favourite after taking part in the UK version of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here and falling in love with British party girl Katie Price.

They married in 2005 with Price arriving at their lavish English wedding at Highclere Castle - where the TV show Downton Abbey was filmed - in a pink pumpkin coach.

That union resulted in two children, but ended in divorce.

Andre, who has been in Australia visiting family and doing a select number of festival shows, has remarried and is the father of four children.

Andre’s son Junior is following in his footsteps as a singer.
