Scott Cam splashes $2.2m on his own lavish piece of The Block

The Block’s Scott Cam has deeper pockets than his famous knockabout tradie persona would suggest, with the show’s host snapping up an apartment for a lazy $2.2m that he only lives in four months of the year.

The Block’s Scott Cam has deeper pockets than his famous knockabout tradie persona would suggest.

Cam quietly splashed out $2.2 million for an apartment that was renovated in an old soap factory in Port Melbourne in the 2016 series which he uses as his Melbourne abode for four months of the year.

While he might be a bloke who likes a beer and is pretty handy with a hammer, Cam is also a canny investor in properties.

“I bought a challenge house from The Block in the soap factory building,” he said of his 2017 purchase.

“I loved this building so much I wanted to buy one of the apartments. It is just a beautiful old building and I Iove Art Deco.

“It has 4.2 metre ceilings right through the whole apartment and a backyard and a side garden.

“When it became available I said ‘yes’ and went to the bank and said can I borrow some money, I want to buy one of these things.”

Being a challenge apartment it was not auctioned as part of The Block show but sold later, which is quite normal for the series.

“To me it is a no-brainer buying a Block house,” he said.

“It came fully furnished with all beds, sheets, towels, knives, forks, plates. Everything comes with the joint. I literally turned key and walked in the door and turned the tele on.’’

Cam said he was ready to return to Melbourne next year for the 2021 season of the show.

“Yes, we are back in Melbourne and the dates are set and ready to roll,” he said.
