Wayne Carey set to strip down for ‘uncomfortable’ performance on The All New Monty
As an AFL legend, Wayne Carey was used to giving his all in front of an adoring crowd. Now the star is set to show a very different side of himself — in a stripped-down performance he calls ‘uncomfortable’. Here’s why.

Wayne Carey has described as “uncomfortable and embarrassing” his surprise burlesque turn on Channel 7’s The All New Monty: Guys & Gals.
After declining numerous offers over the years to do reality shows including I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and Dancing With The Stars, Carey said yes to The All New Monty because of its positive health message.
The show, which stars Patti Newton, Sam Frost, Samuel Johnson, Michael Slater and Leisel Jones, raises awareness of men’s and women’s cancers and the importance of early detection.
“There’s no question that when you’re playing football, you think that you are bulletproof, and nothing can hurt you. I’ve been slack myself about getting things checked,” Carey said.
“But getting tested and finding a problem early can be the difference between overcoming an illness or not. Your health is everything.”
He described the burlesque element of the show as way out of his comfort zone.
“It (the performance) was uncomfortable and embarrassing, but there was a sense of achievement once it was over,” he said.
“I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the other guys and girls who were doing it for the same reasons and I also reconnected with an old school mate, Michael Slater.
“Todd (McKenney, the choreographer) called us the Wagga Wagga weak link. We started to get it together towards the end.”
The three part All New Monty: Guy & Gals special launches next Sunday (September 13).
